This week our team wrapped up the preproduction phase of Love Slain. We’ve got an animatic, storyboard, color script, character designs, 3D dragon rigs, backgrounds, a script, narration, plenty of animation and color tests, and a proof of concept. Here you can see everything that was made this week. The animatic, unlike previous versions of it has the updated characters and backgrounds, and it’s animated using our 2D character rigs. It’s pretty cool looking isn’t it? The proof of concept is in color, which looks even cooler! There were lots of troubleshooting and technical difficulties that had to be overcome to get these videos together. Hopefully, the worst of all that is over. We hope you’ll look forward to seeing Love Slain when it’s done. It’s going to be a while before then, but It’ll be worth the wait! Hello all! This week, leaps and bounds were made as we moved toward finalizing the design aspect of the majority of our assets; specifically the backgrounds and characters. Our assets had been moving toward the final stage for a while now, but now we focused on making sure all the criticism we got helped culminate into an amazing final product. For the character designs we once again met and consulted with character design professor, Adriana Garcia. She reviewed our designs once more and redlined the designs. She gave us great explanations and reasoning behind each redline and suggestion, all of which was taken into consideration and agreed upon by the group. As a result, we have these final designs as seen below. We’ve made many changes with our designs so we’re hoping that this will be the last time we have any major changes/edits to be made. Once they are done they will be prepped for animation. For the backgrounds the majority of them were quite close to what we needed, so the main focus was addressing those smaller critiques we had received from our peers over the week. Once these backgrounds are completed and approved we will be having our assigned texture artist add texture to all of them. Lastly, we worked on finalizing our animatic. We had some scenes that needed reworking, and so this week we worked on fixing those issues after a more in-depth discussion on the feedback we had received.
Overall, we have made major strides towards having the finalized look of the film to present to our peers, professors, and those that have assisted us in what was certainly a rocky start. That’s all for now! This week, we went back to focusing on design elements for the film. Yu went back to editing original character designs, as well as creating two new characters that were added during the animatic, which included a handmaiden and a busty woman. Soul began creating AI files for all of the characters, since we needed working files for our assets and she was able to complete the King, the Jester and the classic Princess design. Nicole and Marquise focused once again on getting their backgrounds finalized. We felt that there was not enough Celtic elements in both our character and our background designs, so we went back and made sure we had proper referencing and Celtic elements throughout the film. Vann, after some critiques from the group, created a beautiful narration that is a really good starting point for what we want the narrator to say. There is still some editing work, but we have a more focused idea on scripting. Rebecca focused on getting started on some color scripting and just overall playing with a variety of color palettes that we may try to utilize in our film. She also was kind enough to do more testing when it came to rigging characters in harmony, she utilized Soul’s AI files to make sure that they were easily exportable into the harmony program. Overall, our group has been working really hard to tie together story and design elements together. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, and within the next week we would like to edit our animatic, add narration on top and have most of our assets finalized, so we can focus our attention on color scripting, as well as getting us set up to begin animating during winter break. Development of story and animatic.
This is a busy week. We got many suggestions for professional to develop our story. Here is an outline of the story after our critique: -Jester and princess show their love and affection (establish their relationship) -Jester is seen by the King cheating on the Princess -King tells princess and she chooses to ignore -Jester asks for Princesses hand in marriage (not knowing that the King has seen his wrong doings) -King says yes but it’s all apart of his plan for the jester to drink poisoned champagne toast -It turns him into a dragon (get rid of the problem) -King tells the princess the jester was eaten by the dragon thinking that this will solve the problem. -The princess is filled with emotions of sorrow, anger and revenge to the beast who killed the jester. NICOLE -As she is getting ready to avenge the jester she is warned by someone (maybe handmaiden) to not let her emotions get the best of her and to leave the dragon alone. -She goes out to kill the dragon anyways. -Handmaiden tells King the princess went to kill the dragon. King follows her to try and stop her. -Princess and dragon fullout battle and the princess wins. -The dragon turns back into jester; princess has realized what she has done. -King doesn’t make it in time, sees what his daughter has done and is saddened, for he explains the curse will now go onto her for killing the beast. -He watches her transform as a single tear drops. Hello, beautiful people! This week our group refined some story aspects, refined our character designs, made a layout of our backgrounds, and created a beginning animatic. How exciting! Look below to see the film's progress in video form. Here is a pdf version, if the video below is out of order. Click the buttons below to open the links to the files. Our character designs are coming along nicely, too. We drastically improved on the King's design especially. And now, they're ready for rigging, how sweet! And this is how all the backgrounds will come together, once finalized. Oh, look, there's a longer background added back there! The better the pan with, my dear :3
This week we did a lot of the same things as last week, and we’ve also started testing some of the technical aspects of how our film will work. This time around it was about filling in any gaps in the story, reworking character designs and backgrounds, rethinking how things will appear on screen, and adding a bit more thematic depth to the film. We started out by just making rough versions of our basic assets, but now we’re more focused on making everything we have so far work together. Here’s some of the more updated characters, backgrounds, and even a sketch of the film’s kingdom’s crest. Edited backgrounds: The group got together to discuss the story and flesh it out better. We were able to come up with a story line that we felt worked well with the premise of the story and decided to build it up from there. Below is a summary of the story in bullets.
